Soft Skills Make a Difference

A positive attitude and the ability to look someone in the eye while giving a firm handshake can truly set two very similar candidates apart in the job process. In this day and age of hiring and recruiting, we’ve been hearing a lot about soft skills, or people skills, when describing a candidate’s interviewing and hiring process. These are the skills that basically allow you to get along and interact with others in a work and social environment. Your ability to evaluate and hone your people skills should be part of your job prep, just as you ensure your resume is clean and typo-free.

An employee should be able to communicate, listen, share ideas, and interact with people (sometimes difficult people) in a way that demonstrates professionalism at all times. During the interview process, while your resume is showing your credentials, you are inherently demonstrating your soft skills. It takes constructive thought to be the person you want to be in the workplace. It doesn’t just happen by chance — it happens via thoughtful awareness, informed actions, and respectful engagements.

The skills of success, such as being adaptable, being positive, having a willingness to assist, and conveying a strong work ethic, are arguably more important than any degree or credential.

2K19 Tournament: The Game’s On! — Tuesday, March 5 @ 6 p.m. — We’re bringing the PS4 back out! Do you have what it takes to keep your spot in the hot seat? Bring your A-game and your buddies as we play NBA 2K19 in the clubhouse. Champs get awesome prizes! The pressure is ON!

When Life Gives You Lemons — Wednesday, March 6 @ 2:30 p.m. — We all know the saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” So that’s exactly what we’re doing. Timbercrest is known for coming up with our own infamous drinks, and now we’re going to master our very own lemonade recipe. Delicious sandwiches will also be available to complete your midday snack.

Spring Resident Appreciation Week — March 10–15 — This is a week full of showing our appreciation to all of you! From touching on the importance of taking care of yourself to ensuring you are all ready for spring break, we’ll be having a week full of fun and interactive events before we depart for a while.

Let’s Relax: Yoga and Meditation — Sunday, March 10 @ noon — We’re sure you’ve been doing your best to keep everything afloat and taking care of yourselves and your loved ones. Mental and physical health are very important, so join us on this peaceful Sunday afternoon to relax and do some stress releasing as we conduct a yoga and meditation class in our clubhouse.

Spring Break Starter Kits — Monday, March 11 @ 1 p.m. — Stop by our clubhouse to create your own spring break starter kits. There will be a table full of necessities! Whether it’s bottles of tanning lotion, travel-size necessities, or just some snacks to get you through the week, we’ll have it for you!

Pancake Galore — Tuesday, March 12 @ 9 a.m. — It’s National Pancake Day, right? Why worry about paying for your pancakes when you can come enjoy numerous pancake flavors right here in the comfort of our clubhouse!? Treat yourself to a yummy breakfast on TC!

Keep Calm and Shamrock On — Wednesday, March 13 @ 2 p.m. — In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, we’re making the famous shamrock shakes! Come enjoy a chilling treat as you conquer the rest your day!

Winging Wednesday Supreme — Wednesday, March 13 @ 6 p.m. — We all love when Winging Wednesdays come around, right? Well, we’re making it SUPREME this month. In addition to delicious wings from G Town Wings and Teriyaki, we’ll have party dips and chips, assorted trays, and a film will be playing in the clubhouse for us all to hang out before we depart next week.

Timbercrest Car Wash — Thursday, March 14 @ 6 p.m. — The sun is shining, but pollen is flying. Let us give you our special car wash treatment in the fitness center parking lot. Be amongst the TC cars that are sparkling clean by bringing your car and $1 and participating in our community car wash. All proceeds go to Relay For Life. Join us to help a great cause!

Spring Break Safety Tips — Friday, March 15 — Safety comes first! All day long, we’ll be sharing safety tips with all of you via IRIO text and our social media platforms. Be sure to tune in to ensure that you enjoy a fun but SAFE vacation. We can’t wait to see you all when you get back.

Grocery Bingo — Monday, March 25 @ 6 p.m. — Living on your own can be expensive sometimes, especially grocery shopping. Who doesn’t like free groceries? Come participate in a fun game of bingo for a chance to pick out necessary items that will either provide you with breakfast, lunch, or dinner, or a grab-and-go snack for a while.
