For many freshman college students, moving near or on a college campus can be their first time moving to a new place. Moving to a new apartment can take a lot of planning and remembering what you’ll need to bring, so that’s why we at Timbercrest at Carrollton created a college freshman checklist for apartment living. With our checklist you’ll be able to check off some of the most important items and things you’ll need to move into your new apartment.

Toolkit

You never know what might happen, so be sure to have a simple toolkit on hand so that you’re able to make quick repairs on anything that you might break. Some tools you could include in your toolkit could be screwdrivers, an adjustable wrench, some duct tape, superglue, and a pack of zip-ties.

Storage Bins

Space can be very limited in an apartment, especially if you’ll be living with roommates who won’t want your stuff all over the place, so get a few storage bins to help keep your stuff organized and out of the way. A great location for those storage bins can be right under your bed, you can also use bed risers for some extra room!

Hamper

Keep your room looking clean and organized with a hamper. A hamper will help keep you from having a pile of dirty clothes on the floor which can be an eyesore sometimes. It can also help with storing clean clothes as well until you’re ready to fold them.

Vacuum

If you want to keep your space clean, you’re going to want to keep a vacuum in your apartment. A vacuum is a great tool for cleaning everything, including your car, or even when you spill your cereal all over the floor and you can just vacuum it up.

Coat Hangers

Many apartments usually will come with a coat hanger rail in the closet, so make sure to use it to your advantage! Using coat hangers are a great way to keep your clothes organized and out of the way while keeping them wrinkle-free.

Waste Basket

Having a small wastebasket in your room will help you keep your room free of trash and will save you the trip to the kitchen trashcan every time you’ll need to throw something away. While you’re at it make sure to grab a few trash bags that fit your new wastebasket.

Decorations

Make sure to add some decoration to your apartment to make yourself feel at home. There are a ton of awesome decorations you can set around your room or apartment. Some cool decoration items can be your favorite posters, pictures of family and friends, plants, candles, and clocks.

Microwave

You’ll need something to heat up your food at home and using a microwave is one of the best ways to do that. A microwave is an essential item for any home, it can also save you a ton of money by eating at home by just using a microwave.

Cleaning Supplies

When you move to your new apartment, you’ll probably want to keep it clean, so bringing a few essential household cleaning items would be needed for your checklist. Some great cleaning supplies to have around the apartment would be, disinfectant wipes, all-purpose cleaner, cleaning rags, toilet brush, rubber gloves, and a mop for cleaning non-carpeted areas.

Bathroom Essentials

There are plenty of items you’ll need for your bathroom but there are a few essential items you’ll want to get through first. The first item that is a must-have for any apartment home bathroom would be a plunger since no one likes having a clogged toilet. A few other essential items would be a shower curtain, bathing products, trash can, floor mat, toothbrush holder, and a mirror if your bathroom doesn’t already have one.
